Biography

Dr. Canty was born, raised, educated, and widowed in Detroit. She earned her PhD in 1981 and was within ten days of finishing her post-doctoral fellowship training when her husband of 11 years went missing. Ten days later, he was found murdered. This pivoted her life personally and professionally. Today, she is an advocate for other homicide survivors as well as the wrongly convicted through her association with the Innocence Network. She has written three books, hosted a podcast, and is organizing a first-ever homicide survivor conference in September of 2026
